Design and Vision: Nurturing Artistic Voice

After mastery of technique and experimentation with process comes the question: "What now?" Explore your own interests and refine your own visual language in this four day workshop.

Marterials list:
Simple supplies - pens, ink, brush, cut paper and others - are the tools of discovery. Participants will use the tools to develop a selection of images - the basic elements for a series of works in any medium - printing, quilt making, collage or  even photography.

Workshop limited to 18 participants, so register early.
   
COLOR AND DESIGN I FOR CONTEMPORARY TAPESTRY

Several lectures will be presented on color and design for contemporary tapestry.  Following each lecture, participants will work on design and color exercises that pertain to the preceding presentation. Particular emphasis will be given to geometric design principles and to the color theories of Johannes Itten and Josef Albers.  There will be opportunity for students to weave miniature tapestries based on the design and color exercises.  Tapestry techniques will be demonstrated. This class is open to students with all levels of experience.
 
 
Materials list for each participant:
 
  • Graph paper, 8 squares per inch
  • Tracing paper
  • Colored construction paper
  • Straight edge
  • Pencil/eraser
  • Colored pencils or markers
  • Indelible fine point black marker
  • Scissors
  • Tape measure
  • T   pins
  • Calculator
  • A good quality compass
  • A loom with an 8 dent reed.  This can be a floor, table or tapestry loom.
 
A $25 materials fee will provide for warp and weft and a folder of handouts.
